Finally understood who cut the cheese?

I'm always amazed to find how language reflects culture.  There are many phrases in Japanese that are hard to understand unless you really know the culture there.  And I face the language problems in English sometimes.  For a long time, I didn't know why "Who cut the cheese?" meant who farted.  I just couldn't see the relationship between cheese and gas.  But then recently I was cutting a cheese, and it finally clicked... aah, this is why...  To smell is to believe....
